If you encounter with semi-wild orangutan, just keep distance for 7 to 10 meters, that is safe distance we suggest for our guest when we trek in Leuser National Park.

Why semi-wild orangutans are not afraid of humans?

Before being released into the jungle, orangutans in rehabilitation are cared for by humans; they are taught how to survive in the jungle, given bananas, baby milk, and their health is monitored, that’s why semi-wild orangutan are not worried about humans.

In the wild, orangutans are free to move anywhere. Do not be surprised if an orangutan walks toward you. It is not to attack, but simply because you may be blocking its way. Sometimes, semi-wild orangutans walk on the ground, even though they are arboreal animals that spend most of their time climbing trees.
