Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Your adventure begins at 8:00 AM when your local certified guides meet you at your accommodation in Bukit Lawang. Together you’ll leave the village behind and enter the lush rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park.
Following quiet jungle trails away from the busiest tourist routes, you’ll begin searching for orangutans and other wildlife while learning about the rainforest from your local guides. Lunch will be served in the jungle. By the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your first riverside camp where a freshly prepared dinner awaits. To end the first day you can play games while listening to the sounds of the jungle, before your first night beneath the jungle stars. Mattress, blankets, mosquito nets and pillows are available.
Day 2
After a filling breakfast, today’s trek takes you further into the rainforest. The terrain becomes steeper, but ropes and jungle lianas are available on the more challenging sections, and your guides will always be there to assist and encourage you along the way.
The effort is rewarded with breathtaking viewpoints overlooking Gunung Leuser National Park. Lunch will be served at one of these viewpoints. Along the trek, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask your guides questions and learn more about the rainforest and its inhabitants while enjoying lunch in the heart of the jungle.
By late afternoon, you will reach another riverside campsite. Cool off with a swim, enjoy a freshly cooked dinner, and spend the evening playing cards, sharing stories, singing around the campfire, or simply relaxing in the peaceful surroundings.
Day 3
Following breakfast, the journey continues deeper into some of the most remote areas of the rainforest. As civilization feels increasingly distant, the jungle becomes wilder and more untouched with every step.
Keep an eye out for signs of rare wildlife. You may be lucky enough to spot tiger footprints, see wild orchaids, or even encounter elephants in the distance. Depending on conditions, your guides may also take you past a natural water oasis where wildlife has been known to come for a drink.
After another lunch surrounded by rainforest views, you’ll continue trekking until reaching the evening’s riverside camp. Enjoy a swim, a delicious dinner prepared by your guides, and another unforgettable night in the jungle.
Day 4
Today brings another full day of jungle exploration as you trek through lush valleys, across ridges, and beneath towering rainforest trees. The further you travel, the more you experience the true wilderness that makes Gunung Leuser National Park one of the most extraordinary rainforests in the world.
Throughout the day, you’ll continue searching for wildlife while enjoying spectacular viewpoints and hidden corners of the jungle rarely visited by others. Lunch is once again served in the rainforest, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your final riverside camp. Celebrate your last evening in the jungle with a freshly prepared dinner, card games, stories from your guides, and the unique experience of spending the night deep in the rainforest.
Day 5
Your final day begins at a more relaxed pace. Depending on your preferences and energy levels, the morning’s trekking can be adjusted to suit you, allowing one last opportunity to enjoy the rainforest and search for wildlife.
After a final jungle lunch, it’s time to leave the forest behind. You will board the famous “jungle taxi”, a traditional river tubing adventure, and spend approximately two hours floating down the Bohorok River back towards Bukit Lawang.
Upon arrival, your guides will accompany you back to your accommodation. Take time to relax, enjoy a well-earned shower, and reflect on the incredible memories and experiences from your five unforgettable days in the Sumatran rainforest.
