To see orangutans, the first thing you need to do is fly to Kualanamo (KNO) Airport in Medan city. From the airport, you will drive for about 4 hours to Bukit Lawang.

Orangutans live wild in the rainforests of Gunung Leuser National Park. This national park is legally used for activities such as trekking and research. The status of this national park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, there are 4 large and important animals living together in this rainforest, they are tigers, elephants, rhinos, and Sumatran orangutans, also several types of monkeys such as macaques and large birds like hornbills and peacocks. when is the best time to visit?

The dry season (February to August) is deal for trekking. However, trekking is possible year-round. During the rainy season (September to January), treks maybe more challenging due to slippery paths, but the jungle is lush and beautiful

How physically demanding is the orangutan trekking?

The terrain in Bukit Lawang consist of tropical rainforest with step hills and humid condition. We offer short treks (6-7 hours) are suitable for families, while overnight treks require good stamina and agility as the paths can be slippery and muddy

Are there venomous animals in the jungle, such as snakes or spiders?

Like any tropical rainforest, Leuser National Park is home to various wildlife, including snakes and spiders. However, these animals are generally shy and will avoid human contact. Sighting on the main trekking paths are rare, as the sound of footsteps usually clears the way long before you arrive

Is the trek suitable for children?

Absolutely! we offer family-friendly packages with a slower pace and shorter routes. For children under 5, we recommend a private guide to assist with the terrain. Traditional tube rafting is also favorite way for kids to return to the village
