Trip Details

Pick-up in airport or medan city

day 1

We will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Medan. From the airport, we will drive approximately 4 hours by car to Bukit Lawang.
Upon arrival in Bukit Lawang, you will check in at the hotel we have arranged for you.

Meet and greet with local guide

Day 1

We want this tour to feel relaxed and personal. We look forward to getting to know you and welcoming you into our warm and friendly culture.
During the orientation, we will provide important information about the tour, especially preparations for the orangutan trekking adventure

One day orangutan trekking

day 2

From the hotel, we will walk towards Gunung Leuser National Park, the gateway to the Sumatran rainforest where our trekking adventure begins.
We will start at 7:30 AM after breakfast. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes, passing through local plantations before reaching the entrance of the national park.

Adventure & learn about jungle

Day 2

We want this tour to be a memorable experience for your family. Our goal is for you to have fun, enjoy the adventure, and gain a deeper understanding of how life unfolds in the wild.
You will learn how liana roots are essential for the movement of orangutans and monkeys, and how termites play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the rainforest ecosystem while also serving as a source of protein for wildlife.

Orangutan and other animal encounter

day 2

From the entrance of the national park, we will venture into the dense rainforest and follow the trails to check fruiting trees inside the jungle. Most wildlife here are fruit eaters, including orangutans, monkeys, and various bird species.
This is the wild, so there is no 100% guarantee of encountering orangutans. However, we will do our best to guide you in finding them during the trek.

lunch at the jungle restaurant

Day 2

A full-day trek usually lasts up to 8 hours, depending on the weather conditions and the physical endurance of the participants. During the trek, we will also enjoy lunch in the jungle. We will serve fried rice along with fresh tropical fruits to recharge and keep you energized for the adventure.

Traditional rafting back to hotel

day 2

During this trek, we will not return to the hotel via the same trail. Instead, our route will lead us to the Bohorok River, where we will enjoy traditional rafting. We will arrive at the hotel in approximately 30 minutes.

We donate a percentage of the profits from each booking. Our focus is on improving cleanliness facilities in our village.

Full day around in the village

Day 3

Starting at 8:00 AM, we will ride a traditional becak to visit the village. Here, you will experience the daily life of the local community and see what they do in their everyday routines.
We will visit small home-based businesses that produce tempeh, tofu, and palm sugar. Later, you will join a traditional cooking class to learn how to prepare authentic local dishes.

tempe-making process

day 3

Tempe is a traditional Indonesian food made from fermented soybeans. It is rich in protein and highly nutritious.

Roof Making Process

Day 3

Some people in the village still make house roofs from leaves. These roofs, made from sago palm leaves, can last for several years.

Cooking class

day 3

You will learn to cook traditional dishes with local people, prepared using secret recipes passed down through generations. You may cook rendang, semur, or gulai, and perhaps even some delicious local snacks.

F.A.Q.

Safety is our priority. For the Family Adventure package, we select flatter, gentle trails that avoid steep climbs or dangerous terrain. Furthermore, we always provide two team members for every family group to ensure constant supervision and helping hand for your little ones

We recommend this package for children aged 5 and above. At this age, children ussualy have the stamina for a 2-3 hour gentle walk and can safely enjoy the river tubing. If you have younger children(ages 3-4), please contact us-we can arrange a private porter to carry them when they get tired

We follow a “slow-pace” philosophy. We don’t rush. We take frequent breaks for snack, hydration, and to look at interesting jungle. Our guides are experts at keeping children engaged with jungle stories to keep their spirit high

Yes, it is the highlight of the trip! we provide high quality life jackets specifically sized for children. The tubes are tied together to form a stable “raft” controlled by our professional tubing captains. It is a gentle, fun slash back to your hotel

We provide fresh tropical fruits and a traditional jungle picnic ( usually rice, chicken, and vegetables). We can prepare the food non-spicy for children. If your child has specific allergies (nuts, dairy, gluten), please let us know during booking so we can prepare accordingly

While Bukit Lawang is not considered a high-risk malaria zone, mosquitoes are present. We recommend using a kid-safe insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved light clothing in the evenings. We always suggest consulting your family doctor for medical advice before traveling to southeast Asia

Our founder is local parent too. Feel free to message us on WhatsApp for a quick chat about your family’s specific needs
